The events of the Hybrid City 2015: Data to the People will be hosted in the premises of the University of Athens, located in the center of Athens.

 
CONFERENCE VENUE

17-18/9: Central Building of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, 30 Panepistimiou Str. To access auditoriums Ioannis Drakopoulos & Alkis Argiriadis, please enter the premises from the entrance located at the side street Riga Fereou.

19/9: Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Grypareion Megaron, 1 Sofokleous Str. To access auditorium Rivoli, please enter the premises from the side street Aristidou. Auditorium Rivoli is located at the underground floor.

To access the New Technologies Lab, please enter the premises from the entrance on 1 Sofokleous Str. and head to the 2nd floor.

GETTING TO THE VENUES

The Hybrid City 2015: Data to the People conference will take place at the historic building of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, as well as at the main building of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies. Both building are located in the center of Athens and are served by Line 2 of the Athens Metro (colour code: red). The Metro station is “Panepistimio”. Attendants arriving directly from the airport will have to change at “Syntagma” station to Line 2. “Panepistimio” is one stop away. Alternatively, there are numerous buses and trolley buses heading to the venue through Syntagma square.

The Metro service runs from 06:30 till 23:30. Tickets cost approx. 8.00 Euros. Please be advised that if you take the last service, it may not be possible to change to another line once you have reached Syntagma. Also, to reach Syntagma, you need to take the Metro train. Suburban railway trains also depart from the airport, but they bypass Athens altogether.

 

 

Alternatively, you may reach Syntagma by bus. Take bus no. X95 from the airport. The bus terminates at Syntagma. From there, you can walk to the venue (approx. 10 mins). Alternatively, there are many bus and trolley bus lines that pass through Syntagma and Panepistimio. Bus tickets to and from the airport cost approximately 5.00 Euros.

You may also take a taxi from the airport. The fare may range from approx. 35 to 50 Euros depending on the time of day. We suggest that you ask for a receipt upon payment.

Athens is a vibrant capital, offering a wide variety of attractions and things to do, something for all different tastes and preferences.

The official tourism web site for Greece, run by the Greek National Tourism Organisation, offers detailed information on Athens, not only about the historic city centre and the major archaeological sites but also about the city suburbs, with options about daily excursions. It is also a great resource of relevant maps and guides, in order to better organise your visit here.

If you have a couple of more days to spend, consider visiting the islands of the Argosaronic Gulf, a magnificent, easily accessible destination, as they are in close proximity to Athens.

The touristic website for the Region of Attica, run by the Prefecture of Athens, is also rich in content about the city of Athens and the rest of the region, with constant updates on events and activities.

There are many hotels of all categories, as well as hostels at a short walk from the venues. However, as September is still a busy month in terms of tourism, it is advised to make accommodation arrangements well in advance.
